Your first step to a GREAT LIFE

…is to be willing to walk away from a Good one.

I have done that – TWICE.

Years ago I was the Chief Operating Officer of a family business. My three siblings were the owners (and still are). I had sold them my portion years ago, but I returned to be the Controller at their request when theirs had given them his two week notice.

Over a few years, I became the COO. Yes, the pressure was high and the hours long (you can read more about that in my book), but there was a certainty about my job. The pay was commensurate with the position for a company that size, which was quite a bit higher than what most Americans make per year.

Over time, I discovered that I had a choice to make. Was I willing to continue doing a job about which I lacked passion, or was I going to figure out a way to move past it? My wife and I decided to start our own part-time home-based business on the side. For us, it ended up being a wise choice, as we were able (over time) to leave corporate America behind.

That is where a lot of peoples’ stories end who have gone the route we did. However, after we became very successful in our business, a new revelation hit me: was THIS where God wanted me NOW? Yes, we felt strongly that we had gone down the right path for us, but now we were both wondering if there was another, bigger vision coming into view.

When I sat down at the end of 2015 to write our 2016 goals, something strange happened: I could not. Don’t get me wrong: I did write some down, but I always ended up scratching them out. They all felt wrong. Hollow. Empty.

After searching my heart – and asking God for Wisdom – it came to me that I had become a very Big Fish – in a very Small Pond. You see, we had accomplished a large title in our company, but the company was still very small.

That is when it hit me: I was now supposed to go swim in the Ocean of life. That is when I started to write my book, which has lead me to a new career as a Professional Speaker.

I was OK being my family company’s COO, but I felt more fulfilled running a home-based business with my wife.

I was fulfilled for a while running the business with my wife, but now I am ECSTATIC about investing my gift of teaching people through being a Professional Speaker for the rest of my life.

How about you? Are you ready to take that first step toward a Great Life? If so, maybe these words from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe will help you put action to your thoughts:

“Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.”

Stop settling for a Good Life when you can have a Great one! You can do it. I believe in you.
