Napoleon Hill, who wrote “Think and Grow Rich”, once said,
“The path of least resistance makes all rivers, and some men, crooked.”
How does this apply to you? It is very easy – and comfortable – to “go along to get along”, “not rock the boat”, etc. These phrases are used by people who want to make everyone happy. There are two challenges here: (1) you cannot make everyone happy, and (2) when you try to make everyone happy, your attempts at doing so will leave YOU with an unhappy result many times.
Here is an example. Years ago a sharp, professional man entered my network marketing business. All of my attempts to educate him about how our industry works fell on deaf ears. One day he said to me that he knew a better way to build our industry – though he had never done this type of business, and besides the fact that he had failed miserably doing it his way so far. He went on to say that he would quit unless I started promoting his way as THE way to build. I had a choice: was I going to “follow the path of least resistance” and make him happy by promoting his method, or was I going to stand my ground and continue to promote the proven method, but lose a sharp distributor?
I chose the second option.
You see, in order not to become “crooked” (meaning “easily moved”) you must remain firm: firm on principles, firm on your convictions, firm on the System that is working for many people. If you give in to everyone’s attempts to sway you off course from what is being taught – and that is time-tested with good results – the day will come when you won’t know what to think any more.
I really like what I heard years ago: “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything!”
So, the choice is yours: will you Stand Firm for your values, principles and convictions, or will you follow the Path of Least Resistance?
I believe that you will make a wise decision.
